IB Career-related Programme (IBCP)

The IBCP is a challenging two year course aimed at students aged 16-19. It leads to a qualification that is widely welcomed by the world’s leading universities and employers, combining both vocational and academic study.

For IBCP students, IB courses provide the theoretical underpinning and academic rigour of the programme, the BTEC course further supports the programme’s academic strength and provides practical, real-world approaches to learning, and the IBCP core helps students to develop skills and competencies required for lifelong learning.

What is in the curriculum?

Students study a 120 credit BTEC Diploma (equivalent to 2 A levels), in addition to 2 IB courses and the CP core.

The IBCP Pathways offered by Parkside Sixth are:

BTEC Business with IB English and IB Maths Studies
BTEC Health and Social Care with IB Psychology and IB Biology
BTEC Sport with IB Psychology and IB Biology

In addition, all students also complete the IBCP Core: Personal and Professional Skills (PPS), Service Learning (SL), Language Development (LD) and the Reflective Project (RP).

PPS allows students to develop skills suitable for the workplace.

SL encourages students to undertake a project based on needs within their community.

LD underpins the IB educational philosophy, encouraging students to engage with a new language, out of a formal setting.

The RP is an in-depth piece of work created over an extended period of time, it allows students to identify and critically reflect upon an ethical issue within their area of BTEC study.
